Walco prospecting picks are manufactured and designed in Australia.  These picks are designed to take the worst abuse any electronic prospector can give it. 

Walco Picks come in two sizes, the 21 & 24 inch handle lengths.  I personally use the Walco picks, and can vouch for their durability in any goldfields.

Hodan Prospecting Picks

Manufactured in Arizona by HODAN MACHINE & MFG. These picks are used through out the U.S. by serious prospectors and treasure hunters.  Made from heat treated carbon steel to a surface hardness of Rc 50 - 55 and a depth of .030 inches, the picks are then tempered, giving these tools outstanding wear resistance and durability.  Each pick is fitted with a 16, 24 or 36 inch American hickory handle which is both wedged and pined to the head.  A small button magnet is attached to the end of the  handle for picking out small pieces of wire and boot tacks, which are so common in old mining areas, from the target area while metal detecting.  The heads on the CALICHE BUSTERS measures ¼ X 2 X 9 inches and the PROSPECTOR PICK measures ¼ X 2 X 12 inches.  The hoe end of the MODIFIED CALICHE BUSTER has an angle cut on it bringing the edge down to one inch across, whereas the CALICHE BUSTER is straight and measures two inches across.  The steel is gold zinc plated for appearance and to resist rusting.

I'm a personal friend of John Hodan, owner and manufacture of these greats prospecting picks.  I have used these picks for several years, and proud to say they are lightweight, durable and strong.

New and exciting shovel attachments for all Hodan Prospecting & Walking Picks.  These attachments are simple to use, and attach and unattached with a few simple wing nuts.  The shovel attachment has a small belt clip so you can equip this item on your belt, backpack or wherever is convenience for you!

I have personally tested this product and it works great!

Why have those big picks with the large flanged heads...?  They are heavy, bulky and always cut into your side when attached to your belt.  With this new invention, you can equip the shovel attachment whenever you desire.  Find some old drywasher tailing piles, equip the shovel attachment and see what they missed.  Great invention and easy to use!

The working surface of the attachment measures 6" X 6".  They are laser cut from 14 gage 4130 chrome/molly steel,  heat treated and tempered to an average Rc 41.5, and zinc plated to resist rusting.

36 inch Walking Pick

This pick is equipped with a 36inch hickory handle.  This pick does not have a small magnet attached to the end of the handle like the 16 and 24 inch picks do. 

I personally use this pick, and like the idea of the length.  You don't have to bend as often to retrieve surface trash.  This pick equipped with a Super Magnet is a great combination!

16 & 24 inch Prospecting Picks

These picks are equipped with either a 16 or 24 inch Hickory handle.  Both sizes have a small magnet attached to the end of the handle.  The 16 inch Prospecting picks are very light weight and are great for your wife, girlfriend or companion!

24 inch Prospecting pick is the most commonly used pick.  Idea size for a belt harness, and has good leverage for digging sizeable holes.
